I worked on the BTOM contest prize commission and managed to get the skin coloring done, and a bit of hair.

Most of you may know about my webcomic BTOM, but for those of you who watch me and don't know about it yet, here's the news that I already blogged on the group page:
BTOM is celebrating it's first anniversary and there is a contest being held!

On September 16th, 2011, I submitted the cover for webcomic Behind the Obsidian Mirror on smackjeeves, and announced that from now on the comic would have weekly updates and had a very good chance of becoming a proper comic, with beginning, ending, and in-between.
Before that day the future of BTOM was still unsure, since I started uploading it with only one intent: to try and force myself into working on a proper comic. By putting the first pages of the prologue online in the early months of 2011 I wanted to create a certain pressure for myself, a responsibility towards you, dear readers, to make me work on it, so I would have to draw something regularly. It was a step towards improving myself as an artist, and as a creator of comics. But the story wasn't completely thought through at that time. I wasn't even sure if I would ever be able to complete it. But then I thought of ~Shir0gane, my dear friend who is an amazing author, and I asked her for help. After many intense hours of brainstorming in which I told her all of my weird ideas, we managed to fill the very big plot holes and think the story to an acceptable end. So a really big THANK YOU should be directed towards ~Shir0gane, since without her this comic would never have become what it is today.

Now for some celebratory actions!

It is contest time!

To celebrate the 1st anniversary of BTOM we decided to put on our very first fanart contest!

In accordance to our first birthday the theme of the contest will be: PRESENTS!

This theme is totally open to your imagination and creativity. You can interpret the theme as you like. What kind of presents would the characters of BTOM possibly give each other? What do you think they would want to have? Maybe you want to show us what you would want to give to them? Or maybe you want to interpret the meaning of "presents" in some other way? Surprise us!

RULES:

- This contest is free for all. You don't have to be a member of #The-Obsidian-Mirror to join the contest. You should have a dA account though, or we won't be able to judge and present your entry properly.
- Your entry has to be fanART. Allowed is anything drawn or crafted by yourself, digital or traditional, you can also submit Cosplay photos or photo-manipulations, but the characters should be recognizable. If you use stock photos by someone else, please remember to check their rules for usage first and credit them. No fanfiction allowed, sorry. There will be time for a fanfiction contest someday, I promise.
- Standard dA rules for submissions apply of course, so no offensive content against anything or anyone or glorifying of violence. Mature content is allowed but should be submitted as such.  
- Please submit your entry to the newly created Contest folder. Submission will be possible for everyone, not only members. Don't forget to somehow mention in the title or comments that this is your entry to the BTOM fanart contest.
- Only one entry per person, please.

- Submissions have to be made until Wednesday, October 31st 2012, 00:00 EST. Anything submitted later than that will not be considered as a rightful entry.

PRIZES:

3 Winners will be chosen from all submitted entries, based on how good or original an idea was used and how well it was executed. The jury will be me - *hakkyouhime - and ~Shir0gane.

1st place: One full color commission, background included, with up to two characters of the winner's choice (OC). (example: [link] )
2nd place: One color comission without background with up to two characters (OC). (example: [link] )
3rd place: One black/white/grey halfbody comission of 1 character (OC), without (real) background. (example: [link] )

The comissions are by me and are DIGITAL ONLY.

I was asked on tumblr if I did livestreaming of drawing the BTOM pages, and since I hadn't tried livestreaming yet, I went and tried.

I'm just going to go on about me finally discovering Sherlock, and how I still wonder how I could have ever thought that Cumberbatch is NOT extremely handsome and simply awesome.


Then I'm going to go on about me discovering The Smiths (yeah probably me watching Sherlock over a year late SHOULD tell you something about me being slow with discovering things other people would call "part of decent music/film education") and re-discovering my love for The Cure (no I'm not late on that, thank God).

After that some more squeels about Sherlock and Morrissey's lovely voice and how I want to make my OC Cyrus the biggest Smiths-fan there ever was.

After that, you'll be excused from reading this miserable excuse for a journal update.

And I'll resume drawing Sherlock. Yes. I try.

I've always wondered what kiriban's are, actually, and how they work. So today I decided, when I saw that I'm pretty close to 20,000 pageviews, to find out! And I learned!

For those who might not know how to Particpate in a Kiriban, here is what you do!

Go to my frontpage and try to catch my pageview at just the right time at number or above (whoever sends me a note first and is closest to the # wins!!)

Anyway, when you caught it or believe you got the closest number....press ctrl+Prt Scr (print screen which should be located up in the right hand corner somewhere on your keyboard...usually close to your backspace button) copy it, paste it in an art program...PS, Sai, MS Paint, or whatever...save it, upload it, and then gimme link!! After finally handing in my bachelor thesis, I feel kinda lost.

Do you know that feeling when you finally have time to do what you want but feel like you should already be moving on to the next stage of working and planning? Have some of you been in this position, maybe?
I mean, I just finished university, and I don't really have a clue what to do next. I studied Japanese studies and to be honest, that's not much of a clear job descriptive. Rather the opposite. I could do anything in relation to Japan, and that's such a wide field of possible choices I just can't make up my mind...

Problem is that I JUST DON'T KNOW what I WANT to do. God it pisses me off. >x< Days like these are hard on my ego, I hate that, it's pathetic.

My father suggested making a list of all my strengths and weaknesses and matching them with the things I could imagine to do. Maybe I'll do that.

But just out of curiosity I'll ask you:
What did you learn and what job did you end up with? Was it something you wished and strived for, that you knew you would someday do? Or did you end up somewhere you didn't expect, or find that something you never thought you'd do fit you perfectly?
I don't know too many people who've experienced life as far as that, so I'd like to know some more. It would be really interesting.

My favorite band, D'espairsRay, has disbanded today.

They already were on hiatus, but no one expected this to happen, and so sudden...

I'm so sad I'm near crying, I think I will later, too.

I just hope HIZUMI will get well soon, and hopefully get back to some band business. I would support him whatever he does.

Just a short update on my life, the universe and all the rest.
I did a lot of awesome traveling. On second thought only one of three trips was awesome, and that was Paris. I went there with 6 of my friends (all girls) and we had a lot of fun.
I got some manga I really wanted and some I didn't expect to get, including the japanese volumes 4 and 5 of "Vassalord"! I wonder if the German versions will ever be published now that Tokyopop is closing... I don't know if the European Tokyopop will be closing too? Haven't really done any research concerning this yet...
I envy Parisians for their cheap baguette and simply delicious croissant,cakes and cheese. *yum*

The other two trips were a birthday visit at my father's and Easter at my Grandma's. Not much to tell about that.

I'm a bit proud that I got around to reading books (yes, real books with pages and all, not just webcomics and manga LOL) again. I finished The swarm by Frank Schätzing a short while ago and am currently reading Glennkill and Hyperion. The latter is an awesome sci-fi classic I found lying around at my father's house, waterstains and all. I got me the current available copy because the first 20 pages got to me although I don't usually read sci-fi. It's really worth reading.

Other things happened since my last journal, I went to a MCR concert in Munich (and am still waiting for them to post those pictures on facebook *pout*) and I managed to get that poster of I mentioned last time. They were selling it outside the hall and I was the happiest girl there is! :boogy: It was terrific!

I'm still working on my BA final assesment... it sucks to be quiet honest, but I guess I'll manage somehow. I have to.

So did you have a nice start into the new year? BTW do you believe in apocalyptic prophecies? Just random curiosity... I don't by the way. I mean, they ALWAYS got the date wrong until now, so why should anyone be right. Right? To be honest I don't even care if it would come, the end, I mean. I'm just blabbering don't bother me. xD

A short notice for all fans of Between the Raindrops:
I've decided to start an account over on smackjeeves.com to host my comics, and I'm going to start with BTR since it's the only one finished.

So this means ultimately that I'm going to remove the BTR pages from dA because I want to clean up my gallery and draw a clearer line between online comic and other art.

I hope you don't mind too much, you can just go over here: [link] and read it there. This way the story gets all the alone standing glory it deserves.

I'm just getting started on this webcomic thing but I plan on adding more or at least one of my other stories and proceed to finish it. (I hope it will help me get some stories finally done )
